Iran’s handwoven carpet industry continues to demonstrate its global significance, with $50 million worth of exports recorded over the past year. Abdollah Bahrami, the managing director of the National Union of Handwoven Carpet Cooperatives of Iran, highlighted the strategic value of the handwoven carpet industry, emphasizing its importance as a key export commodity for the country.
In an effort to boost the sector, the head of the Iran National Carpet Center (INCC) announced in 2023 that the government had relaxed export regulations for handwoven carpets. This policy shift aims to generate more foreign exchange revenues by making it easier for producers to reach international markets.
Iran’s vibrant carpet industry will be on full display at the upcoming 16th International Carpet Expo 2024, scheduled to take place from November 13 to 16 at the Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds.
