Curran Launches Synsisal Carpet Tiles Inspired by Natural Sisal

US-based flooring brand Curran has expanded its product portfolio with the introduction of Synsisal, a new carpet tile range designed to replicate the appearance of traditional sisal textiles while meeting the performance demands of large-scale contract environments.

Synthetic Innovation Meets Natural Aesthetics

Developed to closely mimic the look and texture of sisal fibres, Synsisal reflects Curran’s long-standing expertise in working with natural materials. The company, which has over three decades of experience in sisal-based flooring, has translated this knowledge into a synthetic alternative tailored for modern commercial applications.

Designers Stephanie Piché and Cristina Orozco Cuevas led the development process, aiming to create a product that visually matches natural sisal to the extent that it is nearly indistinguishable in real-world settings. Particular emphasis was placed on replicating the material’s distinctive riven texture and nuanced colour variations, typically achieved through the intertwining of sisal yarns.

The resulting carpet tiles offer the visual richness of natural fibres while delivering enhanced durability and functionality. Manufactured using 100% recycled Econyl polyamide yarn, Synsisal aligns with circular economy principles and can be fully recycled at the end of its lifecycle.

From a performance perspective, the product is engineered for high-traffic environments such as offices, hospitality spaces, and commercial interiors. Its modular tile format allows for easy installation without the need for traditional adhesives, reducing the use of potentially harmful chemicals. Additionally, individual tiles can be removed and replaced if damaged, extending the overall lifespan of the flooring system.

Available in four colour options, Synsisal reflects a broader industry trend toward combining sustainability, design authenticity, and practical performance. As demand grows for environmentally responsible materials that do not compromise on aesthetics, hybrid solutions like Synsisal are expected to gain increasing traction in the global contract flooring market.
