Turkmen and Azerbaijani Carpet Exhibition Opens in Tbilisi to Mark Turkmen Carpet Holiday

An elegant exhibition celebrating the rich textile traditions of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan opened its doors at the Akhundov House Gallery in Tbilisi on May 23, 2025. Jointly organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the event was held in honor of Turkmen Carpet Holiday, a national celebration recognizing the cultural and artistic value of traditional carpet weaving.

The exhibition was attended by a distinguished audience, including representatives from diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia, Georgian ministries and agencies, members of Parliament, former Georgian ambassadors, officials from Tbilisi City Hall, cultural and media figures, and Turkmen students studying in Georgia.

In his remarks, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan emphasized the global recognition of Turkmen carpets as a profound symbol of national pride and cultural identity. Highlighting the inclusion of Turkmen carpet weaving on UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, he described the carpets as a living embodiment of the Turkmen people’s enduring spirit and artistic excellence. The exhibition, he noted, also commemorates the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality.

The ambassador pointed out the significance of carpet ornaments in Turkmen state symbols, calling them an expression of the country’s commitment to ancestral traditions, national values, and a hopeful vision for the future.

Other speakers underscored the importance of joint cultural events in promoting the ancient values and artistic heritage of both countries, as well as in fostering deeper friendship and mutual understanding between the Turkmen and Azerbaijani peoples and their Georgian hosts. They extended warm congratulations to Turkmenistan on its milestone anniversary of neutrality, recognizing the country’s contributions to regional peace and cultural preservation.

The exhibition serves not only as a showcase of textile mastery but also as a meaningful gesture of diplomatic and cultural solidarity in the Caucasus region.
