The awards recognize projects that exemplify how flooring can elevate both environmental performance and design aesthetics while promoting occupant wellness and indoor air quality.
Award-Winning Projects Showcase Environmental Innovation
Commercial Category Winner: Mohawk Industries

Mohawk’s flooring solutions at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center reflect a deep integration of design and sustainability. Manufactured with recycled single-use plastics and natural stone, the 100% PVC-free floors incorporate up to 20 recycled PET bottles per square foot. The product is FloorScore® certified and compliant with California’s strict Section 01350 VOC standards. Through Mohawk’s partnership with Plastic Bank, each purchase also contributes to ocean plastic prevention, reinforcing the center’s environmental mission.
Residential Category Winner: PID Floors
- Project: Stone Harbor Beach House, New Jersey
- Award accepted by: Steven Skutelsky, President of PID Floors
The beach house project showcases handcrafted, energy-free finishing techniques and a zero-waste production model. PID’s multilayer wood flooring uses minimal adhesives and offers decades of service life with the ability to be refinished for renewed aesthetic appeal. The product meets California’s CDPH 01350 v1.2 emissions benchmark and carries an E1 formaldehyde rating, making it a model of luxury and low-impact living.
Lifetime Achievement: Ray Anderson Inducted into WFCA Hall of Fame
Beyond project recognition, the Summit paid tribute to the late Ray Anderson, founder of Interface, for his groundbreaking work in sustainability. Anderson was posthumously inducted into the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) Hall of Fame for revolutionizing the flooring industry with his “Mission Zero®” initiative and commitment to zero environmental impact. His vision has left an indelible mark on the built environment and continues to inspire industry-wide transformation.
The award was presented by Scott Humphrey, CEO of WFCA, and Kemp Harr, Publisher of Floor Focus Magazine. Accepting the honor on behalf of the family were John Lanier, Executive Director of the Ray C. Anderson Foundation, and Joey Shay, Manager of Sustainability at Interface.
