Renowned Indian rug manufacturer Jaipur Rugs has introduced a new hand-knotted collection titled Jardins du Monde, created in collaboration with Paris-based designer Tatiana de Nicolay. The collection is a celebration of nature and global landscapes, reflecting the shared values of cultural heritage, artistry, and sustainability. Consisting of seven unique designs, the collection draws inspiration from iconic botanical gardens around the world, particularly the Albert Kahn gardens in the outskirts of Paris.
Tatiana de Nicolay, known for her refined approach to decorative arts, channels her fascination with global horticulture into this collection. Each rug is more than a decorative item—it’s a woven story that explores cultural expression and the tranquility found in curated natural spaces. Gardens such as those in Japan, England, and France serve as thematic foundations for the designs, alongside features like forests, meadows, water canals, pagodas, and labyrinths.
“Collaborating with Jaipur Rugs allowed me to bring my deep love for garden aesthetics into tangible design. Each piece reflects a different journey into nature and place,”
says de Nicolay.
Narratives Woven Through Craft
Yogesh Chaudhary, Director of Jaipur Rugs, emphasized the company’s commitment to preserving traditional craftsmanship while exploring new artistic directions.
“These rugs are more than textile products—they’re cultural documents. Each one tells a story rooted in botanical wonder and brought to life by skilled hands.”
Jaipur Rugs has long stood at the intersection of artisan empowerment and global design. What began in 1978 with just two looms has now evolved into a massive production network involving more than 40,000 artisans across India, with over 85% of them being women. The company blends age-old techniques with a vision for contemporary luxury, making it a rare example of social enterprise that also leads in the design world.
From the Loom to the Living Room
The Jardins du Monde collection positions Jaipur Rugs as a connector between past and present, art and nature, East and West. Each rug is hand-knotted by skilled Indian artisans and designed to be both a functional product and a visual narrative. The collaboration with Tatiana de Nicolay enhances the company’s global voice while remaining true to its grassroots philosophy.
This collection invites homeowners and designers alike to consider the rug not just as a furnishing, but as a focal point of cultural identity and natural inspiration—an artistic object grounded in global beauty.
