Rich texture & calming colours

ReForm Memory is a human-centred carpet collection created to promote your personal well-being and enhance your space through a multidimensional texture and calming neutrals.

The human brain is extraordinary. Its complex network of cells connects inputs, thoughts and emotions and stores our memories. It’s the epicentre for how we understand the world around us. The ReForm Memory collection is developed by Carol Appleton and is the creative result of the learnings gained by diving into fascinating biological studies and researching how our senses affect the memory.

Scrapbook drawings, images and personal notes combined into a network of resources contributing to inspiration and ideas during Carol’s creative process. They’re glimpses from her product development journey and give insight into the connection between the carpet construction, the pattern and the colour choices – and not least her wish to create a sensory surface and feeling of belonging to the space.

A human-centred carpet collection

The Memory collection focusses on rich texture and calming colours to promote well-being and enhance spaces all around the world. Placing people at the centre of the design process and understanding their needs, behaviours and experiences, Memory originates from many considerations for the (working) environment and the circumstances in which users will interact with the carpet.

Calming colours create moods

The Memory collection features 18 familiar and relatable colours to create various moods through perfect yet surprising harmonies. The either light or softly tinted neutrals are chosen for their ability to promote the interaction between architecture, materials and natural light sources – and for making beautiful combinations for intentional zones or effective wayfinding.

Design and colour affect the way we feel and act in a space. Reminders of the natural world, light and familiar colours can create a sense of belonging.

Colour flows optimise natural daylight

Since the natural daylight is key to personal well-being, your interior design must make the most of it. Below image illustrates how carpet tiles are your perfectly flexible design tool when creating tone on tone colour flows that gradually develop from light to dark. Spreading from the window section and across the floor, a carefully curated colour combination helps to draw the natural daylight into your room while maximising the design expression.

Rich texture stimulates several senses

The three-dimensional Memory structure consists of yarn loops in various heights that combine into an interesting surface with an impressive level of detail. In accordance with the design research process, the structure interpretates how our complex network of brain neurons translates into richly textured carpet design.

Available as carpet tiles, carpet planks, rugs and wall-to-wall carpet, the collection can take on very different expressions. The multi-level loop structure made from regenerated and regenerable yarn defines the pattern, adding depth to the carpet while delivering outstanding quality, great comfort and acoustic benefits.

The designer

Carol Appleton is the creative talent behind the Memory collection. Holding a degree in Textile Design and Design Management from the University of Manchester, Carol is an experienced textile designer and creative director. Our longstanding collaborator in creating textural and inspiring carpet collections, she’s also the mastermind behind ReForm Artworks, ReForm Mark of Time and ReForm Shadowplay.

Making memories is a beautifully blurred, imperfect process. They’ll be distorted by their recall and retelling, each time creating something new.
