Turkey’s Carpet Exporters Generate Over $690 Million in Q1 2025

Machine-Made Carpets Dominate Global Sales; U.S. Leads Import Markets

Turkey’s carpet industry continued to showcase its strength and global competitiveness in the first quarter of 2025, achieving a total export value of $691.4 million from 138.6 million square meters of carpets shipped to 178 countries and free zones, according to figures released by the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Association (GAİB).

Machine-made carpets were the top revenue driver, accounting for $539.9 million of the total export value. This was followed by tufted carpets with special designs, which generated $122.3 million, handmade carpets with $27.3 million, and kilims with $1.86 million. Notably, handmade carpet exports surged by 53.2% compared to the same period last year, reflecting renewed global interest in artisanal Turkish craftsmanship.

The United States remained the top importer of Turkish carpets, purchasing $192.4 million worth of goods in Q1. Saudi Arabia followed with $93.5 million, and the United Kingdom ranked third at $53 million.

Zeynal Abidin Kaplan, Chairman of the Southeastern Anatolia Carpet Exporters’ Association (GAHİB), expressed optimism for the remainder of the year:

“We expect 2025 to outperform previous years. The first quarter’s success confirms the resilience and innovative strength of our carpet exporters despite global economic uncertainties.”

With continued investments in design, production technology, and international marketing, Turkish carpet manufacturers remain well-positioned to maintain their lead in the global flooring industry.
