The Turkish carpet industry is entering a new phase of transformation, following a high-level strategic workshop held in Edirne, where key stakeholders outlined an ambitious roadmap aimed at strengthening the country’s global leadership in floor coverings.
Organised under the leadership of the Istanbul Carpet Exporters’ Association, the meeting brought together industry representatives, policymakers, and exporters to address both structural challenges and future growth opportunities across the value chain. The discussions extended beyond short-term market dynamics, focusing instead on long-term competitiveness, export sustainability, and industrial modernization.
At the center of the dialogue was the concept of “Carpet City”—a large-scale integrated ecosystem designed to consolidate production, logistics, and trade activities within a unified hub. The initiative reflects a broader shift toward efficiency-driven industrial models, where clustering can reduce operational costs, improve supply chain coordination, and enhance international competitiveness.
Equally significant was the emphasis on human capital. Industry leaders highlighted the urgent need to develop a skilled workforce capable of supporting advanced manufacturing and design-driven production. In response, plans for a dedicated vocational high school focused on carpet manufacturing were introduced, aiming to bridge the talent gap and ensure long-term sectoral sustainability.

Beyond domestic restructuring, the workshop also underscored the importance of strengthening Türkiye’s positioning in global markets. Enhancing the brand value of international carpet exhibitions and accelerating customs processes were identified as key priorities to support export growth. These measures are expected to improve trade efficiency while reinforcing the country’s role as a reliable sourcing destination.
From an editorial perspective, the outcomes of the Edirne workshop signal a deeper transformation within Türkiye’s carpet sector—one that goes beyond production capacity and moves toward a more integrated, innovation-driven industry model. The combination of infrastructure investment, talent development, and export-focused strategies reflects a coordinated effort to future-proof the sector in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
As global demand for high-quality, design-oriented, and sustainable floor coverings continues to rise, Türkiye appears to be positioning itself not only as a major manufacturing hub but also as a strategic center for innovation and value creation in the carpet industry.
