Brussels to Unveil Iconic Flower Carpet from 15-18 August 2024

Brussels is set to showcase its iconic flower carpet once again at the Grand Place this August. From 15-18 August 2024, the 1,600m² carpet, made from nearly 600,000 Dahlia and Begonia flowers, will adorn the cobblestone square, creating a vibrant floral spectacle.

The event highlights the region’s flourishing Dahlia and Begonia cultivation, positioning Flanders as the leading global producer of tuberous Begonias. With over 30 million corms exported annually to Europe, North America, and Japan, the industry remains rooted in East Flanders, particularly around Ghent.

The Brussels flower carpet showcases the beauty and diversity of the Begonia, especially the highly demanded double and hanging varieties. Known for their long flowering season, tuberous Begonias are popular garden, border, and patio plants, adding color to outdoor spaces from summer through the first frost.

Now celebrating its 23rd edition, this biennial event continues to attract global attention.
