At the core of Mediterraneo lies macramé – an ancient knotting technique with roots in the Arabic world. The word macramé comes from the Arabic “migramah,” meaning embroidered fringe. This hand-knotting craft traveled to the Mediterranean via maritime trade, where it was embraced by Ligurian women who adapted it into a cherished domestic art form.
The collection reinvents macramé for modern flooring applications. “We’ve chosen a high-performance technical yarn that mimics the natural texture of cotton and hemp, but is far more suited to outdoor use,” noted the collection’s designer.
