Jaipur Rugs and Artist Gurjeet Singh Unveil ‘Dreamers’ – A Fusion of Art, Weaving, and Storytelling

Renowned handmade carpet brand Jaipur Rugs has launched Dreamers, a striking new collection of 15 wall art pieces created in collaboration with Chandigarh-based contemporary artist Gurjeet Singh. Blending traditional weaving with modern artistic expression, the collection explores the emotional and narrative depth of handcrafted textiles.

Described as a powerful tribute to the artisans of rural Rajasthan, Dreamers redefines the boundaries of craft by positioning weaving as both a storytelling medium and an emotional language. Each piece is the result of a deep, personal exchange between artist and artisan, made possible through Singh’s immersive residency in Jaipur Rugs’ weaving villages.

“Our collaboration with Gurjeet Singh is a true exchange,” said Greg Foster, Artistic Director at Jaipur Rugs. “These collectible carpets display not only exceptional craftsmanship but also complicated emotions and personal storytelling.”

Singh, known for his fantastical fabric-based soft sculptures, drew inspiration from his time spent living and working alongside artisans—sharing meals, stories, and reflections on life. The resulting designs weave together themes of identity, freedom, longing, and quiet resilience.

“In the lives of the artisans, I saw reflections of silent dreams and quiet resistance,” said Singh. “Art is a mirror of emotion and experience—it’s deeply personal.”

The Dreamers collection features a blend of cotton, wool, and silk, hand-knotted using centuries-old techniques infused with vivid colors, symbolic forms, and layered meanings. Signature pieces include:

  • Bahu Mukhiya – A critical commentary on societal double standards and façades.
  • The Story of Boogli and Her Mother – A moving exploration of generational patriarchy and female identity.
  • Black Sun – A bold metaphor for the search for light within structures of oppression.

Each piece represents a personal narrative or hidden truth, inviting viewers to engage with the lived realities of the artisans behind the work.
The Dreamers collection underscores Jaipur Rugs’ ongoing commitment to bridging heritage and innovation, creating a platform where craft, culture, and contemporary art converge.

“In Dreamers, art becomes a bridge between craft and contemplation,” the brand states. “It calls not for admiration, but recognition—to honour the humanity of its makers and hear the longing between the knots.”

With Dreamers, Jaipur Rugs and Gurjeet Singh offer more than a collection—they present a movement of storytelling through thread, where each knot holds a memory, a dream, and a voice once unspoken.
